‘Becoming is a forward motion, a means of evolving toward a better self’
Michelle Obama
You were born to succeed!
While this may sound like an sweeping statement, when I look back at my life and all my experiences, I see how the most difficult times have made me the person I am today. However, without certain qualities, challenging times can sometimes keep us back from progressing forwards to the person we want to be.
Opposition in achieving your goals can either strengthen or weaken your resolve. To stand still with fear in our souls is crippling! Fear can keep you stuck as if your feet where in cement, not being able to move in any direction. Fear is the greatest blockade to achievement.
Attribute Heroes

So, how willing are you to ignore your fear and remain persistent, to do the necessary work to become the person you want to be? I shall list some qualities required, and you can add some of your own as this is not an exhaustive list. Persistence > Constant > Self Belief > Diligence > Conscientious > Ambitious > Resilience > Patience (this last one can be a hard one, at least for me). I hope these qualities do not put you off or make you feel like giving up before you have even started.
So where do you begin?
Dividing a whole year into 4 quarters with each quarter having 3 months, might be a place to start. Each quarter gives you the opportunity to set goals you want to achieve within the quarter. However, you need to be careful, as sometimes you may be tempted to shift goals from the previous quarter into the next if they have not been achieved. This can be rather tricky, and the problem with this is you could end up with quite a backlog by the time you get to the 4th quarter, finding you only have 3 months to complete your goal from previous quarters.
Visibility
Keep a steady track of your goals by making them visible everywhere you go. For example, writing them down on 3 by 5 cards and carrying them in your bag or suitcase. Placing cards in strategic place where you will see it regularly e.g. pockets, mirrors, doors, walls be creative. Or saving them to your phone while creating an alarm reminder. However, once you have armed yourself you will need to beware of the 5 killjoy gremlins that will be out to get you!
- Negative thinking – keeping you in a stuck state that makes you disbelieve your strength!
- Limiting Beliefs – “I don’t think I have what it takes to….” or “it will never work because…”
- Procrastination – Putting off what you know you should be doing for another time, day, month or year!
- Self Sabotage – Creating your own disappointments by getting in the way of your own success brought about my limiting beliefs!
- Imposter Syndrome – Feeling like your an imposter faking it, after all ‘I don’t really have the skills to achieve my goals”.
Do not entertain these troublesome 5 completely ignore them as if they were the plague! Then watch your success SOAR!
